Exhibiting Artists:
Ayah Zakout, Piper Kovačić and Patrick Escott.
Piper and I are both artists that find friendship in the seams between our cultures- she calls her Croatian grandmother baba, as I call my Palestinian father baba; friendship in the minute things such as links in between languages.
Sjutra is a word that presents itself in both of our languages, Arabic and Croatian; meaning a space for prayer, a sacred space and (little) tomorrows.
With a core focus on friendship and joy as resistance, during times of hardship, we often think of our reactions to devastation. Our reaction to grief, your reaction to surprise, the first ‘I love you’, people I don’t talk to anymore, the last time we believed in God.
This informed our decision to have no exhibition statement present throughout the course of the show. You react; pattern, communication and language.
